Harry R. Hertel
Eau Claire, WI

Harry R. Hertel enjoys Green Bay Packers football and Minnesota Wild hockey, collecting comic books, and most importantly, his family. Harry is married, with four grown-up children and six grandchildren.

Throughout his career, Harry has promoted a practice in which clients can enjoy a relaxed, "blue jeans are welcome" atmosphere, with a truly supportive staff, and an office in which clients' needs are heard and understood. His combination of firm advocacy for clients' needs with an environment where clients feel welcome is one reason his firm has been rated #1 in the Chippewa Valley.

Hertel received his education from the Free University of Berlin, Germany, his Bachelor's degree from Carroll College, and Juris Doctor Law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Admitted to the Bar in 1976, Hertel has over forty years of experience practicing law in Wisconsin, with a primary focus on those who have been injured or lost a loved one through another's negligence, or those accused of breaking the law. He is admitted to the Federal Cous of Wisconsin since 1976 and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals since 1995. He served as the President of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and is an ex officio lifetime member of its Board of Directors. He is also a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyer, Wisconsin Association for Justice, Eau Claire County Bar Association and Chippewa County Bar Association.

Appointed by Governor Thompson, Harry served nine years on the State Public Defender Board, overseeing the state's nationally renowned indigent defense program. Besides obtaining acquittals and dismissals in homicide cases, he has appeared in court in 48 counties in Wisconsin, defending those accused of all types of crimes and traffic offenses.

He has successfully tried and settled a wide variety of personal injury cases, including those involving wrongful deaths, permanent disabilities, losses of income and earning capacity, pain and suffering, and a wide range of physical harms endured by innocent victims of someone else's carelessness and lack of concern.
