A man in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol when he was involved in a serious car accident. A young boy who was also in the crash was killed as a result. That boy was just eight years old.
The man was convicted of drunk driving, and his sentence was recently handed down by the court. He will have to serve eight years behind bars for his actions.
According to reports from the accident site, the drunk driver went right through a stop sign without bringing his vehicle to a halt. As he came through the intersection, he slammed into another vehicle that was attempting to navigate through. The eight-year-old boy was riding in that car, and his injuries were enough to lead to his death.
The boy’s mother told the drunk driver in court that she did not have hatred for him, personally. Instead, she said that she hated his actions and that her son had been killed as a result.
This was not the first time that the man had been caught for drunk driving. He had been stopped twice prior to the accident. When the crash happened, he was actually driving even though his license had been revoked. He is 29 years old.
Those who have been charged with drunk driving, no matter how many offenses they have, still has the right to a fair trial. On top of that, they have the right to get a fair sentence if they are convicted or if they plead guilty, one that is in keeping with the local DUI laws.
