Teen pedestrian struck and killed by alleged drunk driver

Losing a loved one to any type of traffic accident is a terrible tragedy for families. Losing a child is especially heartbreaking, particularly when the accident is sudden and seemingly senseless. Senseless is what some are calling an accident in Wisconsin that took the life of a 13-year-old girl.

According to reports, the girl was on or near a road the evening of Aug. 9. At that time, a 34-year-old driver moved across the center line in his vehicle. The vehicle struck the girl before hitting a utility pole.

During the accident, the male driver was thrown from his vehicle. The girl was pronounced by emergency responders as dead on the scene. The accident took place close to 6 p.m.

Law enforcement officials report that the man was arrested. The pending charge was intoxicated use of a motor vehicle in a homicide. The man was treated at a local hospital for injuries suffered in the crash before being relocated to a local jail.

The girl's family is continuing to grieve. Some family members have put a memorial cross and other items up at the accident site. They spoke to media outlets, stating that the entire accident is shocking, sad and could have been avoid.

Shock and grief are expected reactions to this type of loss. For other families in similar situations, once shock wears off, action might be taken. While legal action cannot bring back a lost loved one, it can help families recover, especially when medical expenses or lost support are results of the accident. A personal injury lawsuit can help families stabilize finances so they can concentrate on dealing with grief.
