Sex offender registration terms vary from 10 years to life

Facing charges for sex-related crimes means that you are looking at very harsh penalties if you are convicted. While many people who are facing charges for rape, sexual assault and other similar crimes are often focused on the incarceration term that is possible, they should also think about how their life will be affected after they are released from prison if they are convicted. We can help you learn about all the possible penalties for the charges that are levied against you.

One of the penalties that you must consider is the requirement to register as a sex offender after a conviction. The Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act sets up three tiers for sex offenders. The length of time a person has to register as a sex offender is determined by the tier they are assigned. Tier I has the shortest registration requirement, which is 10 to 15 years, and Tier III has the longest, which is a lifetime requirement.

We know that thinking about the SORNA requirements is a very frightening thought. If you are convicted, there isn't a way to bypass the registration requirement. That means that presenting a strong defense is likely your best chance to avoid having to register or to keep the registration term to a minimum.

We can help you determine which defense strategies might be possible for your case. Instead of trying to use a one-size-fits-all strategy, we take the facts of your case into consideration. Once you know the options that you have, you can decide how you want your defense handled.
