Know your rights and options in a criminal case

Defendants who are facing criminal charges have a lot of things to think about. One of the most important things that you have to do if you are a defendant is to decide on the plan of action you will follow if your case goes to trial. We can help you to prepare for trial if that is direction your case is heading. Even if your case might be resolved prior to a trial, we can still help you to get ready, should a trial is necessary.

As we discussed last week, you have the right to plead the Fifth when you are a defendant in a criminal case. This is a right that is almost always best to invoke so that you don't incriminate yourself in the crime that is the subject of the trial. It can also help you to avoid being the subject of a new investigation or new charges.

It is imperative that you fully understand all of your rights when you are heading to a trial. We can help you to learn about the rights you have. We can also help you to understand what options are available if you don't really want your case to end up in a jury trial.

The majority of criminal cases never advance to the trail phase. We can help you to explore the options that might keep your case from moving that far in the criminal justice system. In some cases, we might be able to work out a plea deal on your behalf. It is critical that you consider all the options that you have for your case when you are facing criminal charges.
